Radish so red. Radish so red. Plucked from the heart of your warm little bed. Sprinkled with salt on the top of your head.

Join us in historic Wadsworth for the 2019 Spring Craft and Herb Festival! We will have fresh radishes and other spring produce, as well as our handcrafted goods. The Festival begins at 9am Saturday, May 18 and runs through 4pm, it is located on Main and Maple Streets in downtown Wadsworth.
Birthplace of Laura Spelman (wife of John D. Rockefeller and namesake of the prestigious Spelman College) and the famous blue tip match, Wadsworth was the epicenter of Northeast Ohio’s coal mining industry.
In the spring of 1880, it was the setting for a dramatic months-long military occupation. Cleveland police forces and the Ohio militia were stationed to protect African American miners. Silver Creek mine owner Erastus Loomis had brought these miners from the reconstructed southern states to replace striking Ohio miners. In June, 1880, The Medina County Gazette reported “the strikers seem peacefully inclined … but they hate the Superintendent as bad as the Devil hates Holy Water.”
The strike eventually settled, as did the newly-arrived Southerners. The miners formed the First Baptist Church, which will celebrate 140 years in Wadsworth in 2020.

Below is a delicious suggestion for springtime radishes:
Sauteed Radishes
Chop 2 slices of bacon and fry until fat begins to render.
Add one bunch of radishes, cleaned and cut in half.
Fry until tender, 8-10 minutes.
Drain fat, add 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar and a pinch of sugar.
Garnish with fresh herbs and enjoy!
