Ramp Up Peninsula Walkabout – May 7, 2022!

Celebrate Mother’s Day weekend in the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley during the final 2022 Ramp Up Peninsula Grab & Go Walkabout! Our last 2022 Ramp Up Peninsula Walkabout is Saturday, May 7 from 11am until 4pm.

Ramps will be available for sale, $16 per pound, at the G.A.R. Hall parking lot (located on the southwest corner of Route 303 and Riverview Roads in Peninsula). Our Wild Leek ramps will be available, $16 per pound, in addition to our versatile ramp seasonings and delicious marmalades. 

Among the other fantastic Walkabout Peninsula vendors and events, Peninsula Village Antiques, on 1685 Main Street, will offer our own Antiques Ramp Show! Visitors can bring at least two items for appraisal and information from antiques dealers from 2 – 4pm (opinion fee $5). Following the Ramp Up Peninsula events, the G.A.R. Hall features the Voices in the Valley music program. Tonight’s artists are Rachel and the Beatnik Playboys with Cleveland Orchestra violinist Emma Shook, general admission $18.

Ramped Up Sweet Potato Pancakes

  • Wash and peel 1 sweet potato and 3-4 baking potatoes;
  • Shred potatoes using a box grater or a food processor;
  • Use a clean towel, squeeze as much liquid as possible from shredded potatoes (or use a salad spinner to remove liquid);
  • Combine potatoes in a large bowl with 6 clean ramps, thinly sliced;
  • Lightly beat 3 eggs and add to potatoes;
  • Add 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour, salt and pepper and combine thoroughly;
  • Heat 1/4 cup of vegetable oil in a large, heavy skillet;
  • Drop potatoes in the hot oil by the spoonful, and spread into roughly 3-inch pancakes with a spatula;
  • Fry pancakes until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes per side;
  • Drain cooked pancakes on a wire rack;
  • If desired, serve with sour cream or plain Greek yogurt, then enjoy!
  • Ingredients: sweet potato, baking potatoes, ramps, all-purpose flour, vegetable oil, salt & pepper.
