The 2020 Season

I like vending machines, because snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at the store, often times I will drop it, so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential.

The 2020 season stands unique among our other garden seasons – may it remain so. COVID-19 robbed our loved ones of happiness, health and life this spring. Our annual spring festivals were cancelled. Yet, this strangely quiet summer brings plenty of simple joys. Gardens throughout Northeast Ohio appear to brim with bounty at every turn.

American adults report a 35 – 40% increase in snacking thus far in 2020, compared to 2019. Tempting tidbits easily occupy adults and kids navigating new routines. While sweet treats can’t be beat, our hot and hazy July weather pairs perfectly with spicy snacks. They are even better when fresh from the garden. Looking for a bold flavored, crispy green? We’ve got you covered with our Ramped Up Kale Chips!

Ramped Up Kale Chips

  • Wash 1 large bunch of kale, remove stems.
  • Massage with 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
  • Season to taste with Ravine’s Edge Ramp Salt (or garlic salt), onion powder, chili powder and black pepper.
  • Arrange so the massaged and seasoned leaves are not touching each other on dehydrator trays or cookie sheets. Dehydrate in an electric dehydrator set at 145 degrees overnight (8-10 hours) OR bake in an oven set at 325 degrees for 40 minutes (monitor cooking towards the end of the bake time).
  • Enjoy!
